HOW TO PRAY Do we know how to pray? Why some prayers are more active than others? I am so busy, tired and I forgot to pray, today! I was to church and prayed, today! These are usual phrases we can here daily, but we have to learn to pray correctly! Prayer works. That's a fact. I know -- sometimes when you pray for rain you don't get it. I'm not going to get into the theology of whether God literally answers prayers or not. But it's an incontrovertible finding of objective research that prayer makes people feel better. It does in fact give you emotional energy. And emotional energy is very often the miracle ingredient that helps people keep going and doing their part in making their prayers come true. After all, giving up is not the path to answered prayers. This is how you can find yourself in a wonderful positive cycle: Prayer gives you emotional energy, emotional energy helps you take action, your actions make good things happen in your life. But there's another research finding that's more important and yet less well known. Certain kinds of prayer work far better than others. This is a stark and surprising truth. From the point of view of emotional energy, some of us pray correctly and some of us don't know how to pray well at all. Why Active Prayer Works I don't know why God works the way He does, but I do know why we work the way we do. Outcomes are out of our hands. The more likely they are to be the kind of special outcomes we pray for -- success, health, love -- the more likely they are to be hard-to-come-by outcomes. There's no point in praying that you'll find a penny, because pennies turn up everywhere. But what do you think will happen if you pray to find a thousand dollars? How often do you find that lying around? The more specific and the more special the outcome is that you're praying for, the less likely you are to get it. Why set yourself up for discouragement? Everything changes in your energy when you pray for changes in yourself. Now you are a fifty-fifty partner in making those changes happen. God helps those who help themselves. The only way you can help yourself that means anything is to change yourself. And the changes we're looking for happen faster and more easily when you feel you're not alone. That's why active prayer is a secret of high-energy people. From the point of view of emotional energy, here's an excellent example of active prayer. Dear God, my Lord and Friend, give me the vision and insight to see what's true in this confusing life of mine. And out of all the things that I come to see are true, give me the intelligence to see what's most important. And when I see what's most important, give me the understanding to know what to do about it, the strength to act on it, and the patience to see my actions through. And help me become someone who can accept what can't be changed. And help me develop the capacity to see what's good in my life and in this world. And make me a kinder person. Give this prayer a chance. Everyone who prays it for several days in a row sees his energy rising. But it's even better to engage in a spontaneous dialogue with God using your own words and feelings to talk to Him about what you're dealing with and ways you'd like to become a better person. That is not enough to go to church on Sundays and to pray for a hour, or to walk in front of a church and say, “Forgive me God”, or to fail in knees when we are in troubles and to say “God please help me”. If we have true faith in God, we have to reconsider our behaviors and to try to pray correctly and then our entire life might change in better. stage 1
